Here’s $10, Send Me $90
Terry Carson’s March 11 letter to the editor correctly describes Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan as providing funding for schools to reopen, support for small businesses and faster distribution of COVID vaccine. The plan also includes a few other direct benefits to struggling Americans.
Terry decries that “Not a single Republican in Congress voted for” the plan. Republican ‘no’ votes resulted from sound judgment because only 9% — yes, only nine-percent — of the $1.9 trillion goes to the American people who need help right now.
Terry fails to mention where the other 91% will be spent. I know Terry and he is a decent gent, but I doubt that the last time he bought a car, he offered to give the dealership 91% more than the sticker price of the car.
I am going to test my theory: Today I mailed a $10 bill to Terry with a copy of my letter to the editor and I am asking him to send me $90. Apparently he believes it is a fair deal to receive $10 and give away $90. Terry proudly declares this to be the Democrat way, unrestricted overpayment by 90%.
The better question is: In a time of crisis, why did the Democrats in Congress unanimously vote and brag about wasting $1,729,000,000 of my money? Please Congress, send 100% of my money to me, just like Terry will.
I am guessing Terry is also hopping on the Kamala Kaboose: Remember Joe Biden, the freshly inaugurated president of the U.S. had the audacity to ask “what am I signing” before he signed an executive order and Kamala Harris said “just sign it.”
Joe Biden had the chance to assert the vaunted leadership touted during the campaign, but even with $1.9T of our money at stake, he ‘just signed it.’

Geauga Government Project
Happy Sunshine Week, a nationwide initiative promoting open, accountable and transparent
government!
In support of these ideals, the League of Women Voters of Geauga is pleased to announce The Geauga Government Project, a local League effort to study and observe government bodies in Geauga, educate the public how their government works and facilitate productive interaction between community members and their elected officials.
Our initial efforts will focus on elected county positions. A committee of League members is already researching statutory powers and responsibilities and we are working with Geauga officials to learn about the organizational structure and lines of authority.
As we develop materials we will share them on our website at www.lwvgeauga.org. We also plan to host a series of virtual public forums where we welcome an elected county official and learn more about their role in our government.
We are excited to begin this journey and we invite the entire community to come along!
