Letters to the Editor
Never Thought it Would Happen
Munson Township residents need to be aware the Munson Township Zoning Board is attempting to take away resident’s voice in the township zoning codes.
Residents should attend the zoning meeting on April 9 to prevent this from happening. Please visit www.munsonrights.com for details of the proposed changes.
We believe these zoning changes can pose a significant threat to the rural beauty and tranquility of Munson Township. It could allow organizations to have an unchallenged right to hold events including Carnivals, Circuses, Tent Meetings, Bazaars, Festivals, Art Shows or other similar public events. These events could be held for 30 days and without challenge by local residents who would be directly affected by them.
The current zoning regulation calls for the 51-percent approval of local residents and limits such events to 15 days. The proposed changes would eliminate the need for local resident approval and lengthen the time from 15 days to 30 days.
This topic has been a frustrating and expensive issue for us personally, as we have challenged the zoning board’s failure to adhere to its own zoning codes. Their response appears to be the changing of the zoning codes to suit their needs and eliminate the voice of the surrounding property owners.
We understand many people may not care about our particular issue, but the purpose of this letter is let you know that the proposed zoning law changes can have significant detrimental impact to this area and other areas of Munson Township if it passes.
Allowing organizations to have an unchallenged right by local residents to hold events for long periods of time could lead to the loss of our rural beauty and lead to traffic jams, large crowds, and loss of use and enjoyment of your residential neighborhood.
We urge you to visit the website and attend the township meeting on April 9 at 7 p.m. to ask questions and voice your concerns.
We never thought it would happen in our backyard and we hope you take the time to see that it doesn’t happen in yours.
