Outstanding Choice

I want to take a moment to express my support for David M. Ondrey, a candidate in the Republican Primary for Common Pleas court.

David has served as the Solicitor for the Village of South Russell for my entire Council tenure (14 years). In this time, I had frequent interaction with David, seeking not only his very sound legal advice, but also asking for his personal opinions and judgement on various issues that affect the Village and its residents.

I have had the opportunity to observe him, listen to him, and learn from him.

Based upon these many years of experience with David, covering a very broad range of topics, I can emphatically assert thathe will make a terrific judge. His calm demeanor, patience in explaining legal matters, openness to varying viewpoints and sense of humor while under pressure, will all serve to make him effective in managing a courtroom.

During my service on Village Council, we never seriously debated replacing him when his contracts would expire because we respected and valued his professional judgement — and we liked him as a person.

There are several good candidates for this position this year, but I think David Ondrey is the outstanding choice.

Choose Carefully

Of all the contested elections coming up in the March 15 primary, we think one race stands out in importance to the future of Geauga County. Namely, the Republican Primary to select a candidate for the Common Pleas Court.

We elect judges to six year terms, so the person ultimately selected will be with us longer than any of the other elected officials. Let’s choose carefully.

We want a judge who has significant courtroom experience, who comes from a wide and varied legal background, and who has demonstrated the courage and people skills necessary to make the judicial system operate smoothly and fairly.

Of the four candidates vying to be chosen, we believe David Ondrey best exemplifies all those characteristics. After practicing law in a successful, busy firm in Chardon for over 35 years, David’s knowledge and experience stand out.

When our next judge faces tough cases and tough lawyers, we want someone with David’s background running the courtroom. He has been in the trenches on many difficult cases over the years, and with this experience he will best confront the many pressures and challenges facing trial judges.

David’s leadership skills have been demonstrated by being chosen law director over and over again in various Geauga County communities, as well as his long tenure as outside counsel to the Park District. His leadership skills are also reflected by his repeated stints as Board Chair at several Geauga County institutions, such as Geauga Hospital, United Way and others.

This man brings the full package we want in a judge.

We urge the voters to select David Ondrey in the Republican primary on March 15.
