A Burton man died in a three-vehicle crash in Parkman Township late Friday afternoon.

According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol media release, Michael Garrett, 52, of Burton, was traveling westbound on U.S. 422 in a 2011 Hyundai Sonata at approximately 5:43 p.m. May 21 when he came upon a horse-drawn buggy, also traveling westbound on U.S. 422.

After impact, the Elantra went off the south side of the road.

The driver of the Elantra was identified as 25-year-old Mallory Rader, of Niles. She was life-flighted to University Hospitals of Cleveland for serious injuries. Rader was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

West Farmington resident Allen Detweiler, 46, was the driver of the horse-drawn buggy. He and his four children were not injured in the crash.

Parkman Township Fire Department and the Geauga branch of Ohio Department of Transportation assisted OHP in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to the media release.
