Grendell Named OJC Co-Chair

Geauga Cou-nty Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Timothy J. Grendell has been appointed co-chair of the Ohio Judi-cial Conference’s Judicial Compen-sation & Benefits Committee.

In addition to providing indivi-dual committee leadership, co-chairs also serve on the OJC executive committee with the officers of the OJC; the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio; the chief justice and the chief justice-elect of the courts of appeals of Ohio; the presiding officer and the presiding officer-elect of each judicial association; the administrative director of the Ohio Supreme Court; and the OJC executive director.

The OJC, formed by the Ohio General Assembly in 1963, is comprised of all Ohio Judges. It is charged with coordinating the work of all courts of Ohio and promoting the administration of justice throughout the state.

Land Groups Merge Into One

Waite Hill Land Conservancy, which owns 297 acres in the Lake County village, has merged with the nonprofit Western Reserve Land Conservancy, the largest land trust in Ohio.

Under the merger agreement, all of the parcels owned by the Waite Hill conservancy will be transferred to the Moreland-Hills based WRLC, which preserves natural resources and farmland in a 14-county region.

WRLC will place conservation easements on those parcels, thereby permanently prohibiting development of the properties.

There are currently no conservation easements on the Waite Hill parcels.

WHLC President Brian Sherwin said WRLC is “well-equipped to preserve some of our village’s finest natural resource assets. Their expertise will prove beneficial to our village and residents.”

WHLC’s roots go back to the years after World War II, when the 1,000-acre South Farm property of John and Francis Sherwin was divided into conservation areas and lots for sale, and a partnership was created for the purpose of conservation.

In the mid-1980s, the family created WHLC and nearly 300 acres, including the Sherwin Preserve, The Bird Sanctuary and other parcels, were transferred to WHLC.

 Health District Seeks Member

Geauga County residents who would like to get involved in management of the county’s public health services are invited to apply for appointment to the Geauga County Board of Health.

Appointment is for a term of five years and is a volunteer unpaid public service.

The board of health consists of five members who are responsible for working cooperatively with Geauga County Health Commissioner Robert Weisdack and his staff, and elected local government officials to ensure both the environmental and personal health services the county health department provides are in compliance with state law, meet the public health needs of residents and stay within the budget of the department.

Appointment to the board of health is made by the 22 members of the Geauga County Health District Advisory Board (HDAC).

Members of the HDAC are the chairman or chairwoman of each board of township trustees in the county (16), the mayor of each village or president of city council (5), and the president of the Geauga County Board of Commissioners.
