Michael Auria, 27, a former long-term substitute teacher for Kenston Schools, was sentenced to four to six years in prison Sep. 2 for charges related to taking photos of a nude minor.
Auria, of Auburn Township, was sentenced for illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance, a second-degree, according to Geauga County Court of Common Pleas records.
The crimes took place in July, November and December of last year, according to court records.
None of the incidents involved any students in Kenston, Superintendent Bruce Willingham said in a statement.
“(Auria was) removed from (his) position on the same day the Geauga (County) Sheriff’s Office informed us that an investigation had been opened,” he said.
Auria pleaded guilty to illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance July 7.
He originally pleaded not guilty in March, when he was indicted.
Auria was sentenced to a minimum of four years in prison and a maximum term of six years and a $10,000 fine, according to court records. In addition, he will be required to register as a Tier-II sex offender every 180 days for 25 years.
At his release, Auria must be supervised by parole for five years. If violated, Auria may be sent back to prison, according to court records.
The court also ordered him to forfeit his iPhone XR to the State of Ohio.
Upon sentencing, the court dismissed two counts of engaging with a minor sexually, a second-degree felony; one count of pandering sexual content with a minor, a fourth-degree felony; and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony, according to court records.
Geauga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Matt Rambo and Prosecutor Jim Flaiz did not respond to a request for further comment prior to press deadline.
