Shoppers looking for one-of-a-kind handmade gifts can also help children in need at this year’s 81st annual Creations event Oct. 4 in Bainbridge Township.

The annual fundraiser, hosted by The Children’s Guild of Cleveland, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Federation Church Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road.

It will bring together talented artisans, generous donors and a mission-driven community to support more than a dozen local organizations that serve children across Greater Cleveland, the children’s guild said in a press release.

Members of the guild — a nonprofit organization — will sell handmade items such as jewelry, holiday decor, home and garden decor, vintage items and fiber art, the guild said.

“It’s a great group of women and they’re very giving and they’re very talented. We have a good time,” said Pat Leech, a 25-year member of the guild Sept. 23.

Each year, the guild committee selects local agencies who support children’s needs, such as educational, emotional, medical, health, suicide preventon, camping, nature awareness and artistic enrichment, according to the guild’s press release.

All of the proceeds will go to a group of organizations previously chosen by the guild based on their mission, Leech said.

This year’s organizations include: The Adoption Network, Big Brother/Big Sister, Blessing House, Broadway School of Music and Art, Chagrin Falls Park Community Center, DDC Clinic, Fostering Hope, The Hiram House, Joel’s Place for Children, Journey Center for Safety and Healing, Life Act, the Rainey Institute, The Singing Angels, The Treehouse Ohio, Two and Company, Upstage Players, WomenSafe and the Youth Challenge, the press release said.

“Every penny goes to help the children in Greater Cleveland,” Leech said.

The guild has donated $1.9 million to local organizations that help children, the guild said in its press release.

“The members of the children’s guild are dedicated to helping children and through their unyielding and timeless efforts of creating crafts and items for the sale, through the generous sponsors and donors who support the guild, and the many shoppers from throughout Cuyahoga County, Geauga County, the Chagrin Valley and beyond, is what makes Creations a successful fundraiser to benefit children,” said guild President Mary Kehres.

There are also people who donate items that aren’t members of the guild, Leech added.

“They believe in our mission and (these) people have donated handmade quilts and sweaters and all kinds of lovely items, knitted hats … they are not even members (of the guild), but they believe in our mission and want to help us out,” Leech said.

There will also be a raffle featuring items donated by the guild and the community, including a trip to Newport, RI., according to a press release from the guild, which added raffle tickets are $1 each, $5 for 6 tickets, or $20 for 30 tickets. Admission into the event is $5 per person, children 12 and under are free.
