Joint Board of Commissioners

A Public Hearing for the Portage-Geauga Joint Board of Commissioners will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in the Geauga County Commissioners’ Board Room, 470 Center Street, Building #4, Chardon, Ohio 44024-1068, to review the Proposed Fiscal Year 2020 Tax Budget and to consider its adoption. All citizens are invited to attend the hearing to provide the Joint Board of Commissioners with written and oral comments and ask questions. Beginning May 21, 2019, the Budget may be inspected by the public at the Office of the Geauga County Board of Commissioners (see address above), the Portage County Commissioners’ Office (7th Floor) and the Portage County Auditor’s Office (5th floor), both located at 449 S. Meridian St., Ravenna, Ohio.

A regular Portage-Geauga Joint Board of Commissioners’ meeting will be held at the Geauga County Commissioners’ Office, 470 Center Street, Building #4 in Chardon, Ohio, immediately following the Public Hearing June 11, 2019 to adopt the FY 2020 Tax Budget and to discuss any other general purpose business to come before the Board.

NOTICE OF SECOND PUBLIC HEARING

GEAUGA COUNTY

CDBG PY 2019 Community Development

Allocation Grant Program

The Geauga County Board of Commissioners intends to apply to the Ohio Development Services Agency for funding under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, a federally-funded program administered by the state. The County is eligible for up to $284,000 of PY 2019 CDBG Community Development Allocation funding, provided the County meets applicable program requirements. On March 12, 2019, the County conducted its first public hearing to inform citizens about the CDBG program, how it may be used, what activities are eligible, and other important requirements. Based on citizens input, the County is proposing to undertake the following CDBG activities utilizing the Allocation Grant Funds:

1. Private Rehabilitation, Maple Leaf Community Residences, $68,400, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI – Limited Clientele;

2. Parking Facilities, DDC Clinic, $54,800, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI Service Area;

3. Neighborhood Facilities / Community Center, Womensafe Inc., $23,600, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI -Limited Clientele;

4. Public Services, Geauga County Dept. On Aging, $40,700, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI – Limited Clientele;

5. Parks & Recreation Facilities, Geauga County Agricultural Society, $32,800, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI – Limited Clientele;

6. General Administration, $53,800, to administer the CDBG projects PY19 CDBG Community Development Allocation Grant Funds.

7. Fair Housing Administration, $3,000, to implement the County’s Fair Housing Program, PY19 CDBG Community Development Allocation Grant Funds.

Alternate Projects:

1. Fire Protection Facilities and Equipment, Middlefield Fire Department, $31,500, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI Service Area;

2. Public Services, Berkshire School District, $18,000, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI Service Area.

3. Public Rehabilitation, Village of Middlefield, $10,000, CDBG Funds, National Objective – LMI – Limited Clientele.

A second public hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 9:15 a.m. at the Geauga County Commissioner’s Chambers located at 470 Center Street, Building 4, Chardon, Ohio 44024 to give citizens an adequate opportunity to review and comment on the County’s proposed CDBG Allocation Grant Application, including the proposed activities summarized above, before the County submits its application to the Ohio Development Services Agency.

Should any participant require auxiliary aids due to disability, please contact this office at least one week prior to the hearing date, to ensure needs will be accommodated. Anyone wishing to submit written comments prior to the hearing date may direct them to the Geauga County Community and Economic Development Office: 470 Center Street, Building 8A, Chardon, Ohio, 44024.

Citizens are encouraged to attend this meeting on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 starting at 9:15 a.m. to express their views and comments on the County’s proposed CDBG Applications.
