Block Grant Program

Geauga County intends to apply to the State of Ohio Community Services Division, Office of Community Development for $155,000 in funding under the FY-2014 Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Allocation (CDBG) program, a federally funded program administered by the State and will also submit a Neighborhood Revitalization Application for $300,000. Additional grant funding of approximately $70,000 will be provided through the waiver of CDBG and/or HOME program income funds currently held by the County. This second public hearing will be held on June 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Commissioner’s Chambers at 470 Center Street, Building 1A, Chardon. The first hearing was held on February 13, 2014, to inform citizens about the CDBG programs and how they may be used, what activities are eligible, and important program requirements. The applications for consideration to be included in the 2014 CDBG Allocation Grant are listed with National Objective:

Maple Leaf Community Residences-Private Rental Rehab – $46,200 – (LMI Limited Clientele)

Middlefield Village-Senior Centers – $7,500 – (LMI Limited Clientele)

Burton American Legion Hall-Public Rehabilitation – $50,250 – (LMI Limited Clientele)

Thompson Township-Neighborhood Facilities/Community Centers – $79,000 – (LMI Area Benefit)

Pleasant Hill County Home-Public Rehabilitation – $24,600 – (LMI Limited Clientele)

The County will also be submitting a 2014 CDBG Neighborhood Revitalization Grant application for $300,000 for Thompson Township Square target area. Sidewalk Improvements – $50,000 – Repair and ADA improvements to the sidewalk from ball field to square – (LMI Area Benefit)

Parks and Recreation Facilities – $20,000 – Playground equipment and fencing purchased and installed for ball field (LMI area benefit)

Neighborhood Facilities/Community Center – $200,000 – Public Rehabilitation (LMI Area Benefit)

General Administration – $30,000

All projects submitted meet the National Objective to benefit low to moderate income (LMI) persons. The purpose of the hearing is to provide citizens with an adequate opportunity to review and comment on the County’s Allocation application, the waiver of program income and/or the Neighborhood Revitalization Grant for Thompson, including the proposed activities summarized above, before the County submits its application to the State of Ohio Community Services Division, Office of Community Development. Notice is hereby given that sealed bids will be received by the Auburn Township Board of Trustees for the Cement Pad Repair/Replacement of Various Concrete Roads in Auburn Township until 4:00 p.m. official local time on Monday, June 16, 2014.
