The largest new tax levy issue on the March 15 ballot may be voted on by the smallest number of Geauga County residents.
Besides six additional village and township levies to support police, roads and fire departments in Geauga County, Mentor Exempted Village has a 4.9-mill continuing levy on the ballot for its school district.
For most who live in Geauga County, Mentor, in Lake County, is a place to shop or work.
But voters in 20 homes on Little Mountain, Mentor and Griswold roads in the northwest corner of Chardon Township could see a $171.50 increase for every $100,000 of property value if the continuing levy passes. The levy is on the ballot to help cover the district’s current expenses, according to the Geauga County Auditor’s Office.
If the Mentor school levy passes in 2016 and is collected in 2017, the yield from the 42 parcels in Geauga County would be $24,145.
