Preschool Poetry in Motion

On March 15, Notre Dame Elementary School held its annual pre-kindergarten poetry recital. All children prepared poems for the evening with selections from Shel Silverstein, Kenn Nesbitt and many other poets, entertaining a filled auditorium. The poetry recital is a preschool tradition that dates back to its Montessori days. NDES values this experience as an important step in each child’s educational development.

Adventures in Dog Sledding

Mrs. Joelle Coates and Miss Trisha Hellers’ third-grade class enjoyed an in-school field trip on the beautiful campus of NDES learning about dog sledding in partnership with Lake Metroparks.

As part of a cumulative study in English language arts (ELA), the experience brought to life literary studies from “The Bravest Dog Ever, Balto” by Natalie Standiford. Students experienced various aspects and points of view from both the dogs and sled driver. In addition, they learned dog commands as part of the dog team.

GCCTM Math Competition

NDES congratulates the junior high math tournament team that participated in the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Math Competition (GCCTM) on March 10. The GCCTM competition promotes enthusiasm for math, challenges students in an energizing setting and celebrates community-wide achievements of young mathematicians.

Representing NDES were four eighth-grade teams and four seventh-grade teams. All of the teams were recognized for their exceptional math skills. An extra special thank you goes to Mrs. Wendi O’Brien for preparing the students for the competition.
