Ohio Supreme Court’s Board of Professional Conduct Recommends 18-Month Suspension for Grendell

The Board of Professional Conduct of the Supreme Court of Ohio has recommended that Geauga County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Tim Grendell be suspended from the practice of law for 18 months, with six months stayed on the condition he refrain from further misconduct.

The Board of Professional Conduct of the Supreme Court of Ohio has recommended that Geauga County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Tim Grendell be suspended from the practice of law for 18 months, with six months stayed on the condition he refrain from further misconduct.

The board further recommended the Supreme Court’s disciplinary order include a provision immediately suspending Respondent from judicial office, without pay, for the duration of his disciplinary suspension.

In addition, the board recommended that, as an additional condition of reinstatement, Grendell be required to complete eight hours of judicial ethics education that includes the appropriate use of contempt powers. It also recommended that Grendell be ordered to pay the costs of these proceedings.

The board’s 88-page Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law and Recommendation was issued Oct. 4.

In issuing its recommendation the board adopted findings of fact, conclusions of law and recommendation of a hearing panel consisting of Hon. Rocky A. Coss, Frank C. Woodside III and Peggy .J Schmitz, panel chair. The panel heard the matter on Feb. 26-27, March 4-7 and 29, and April 23-24, 2024.
