When the current phase of Notre Dame Village is complete, it will provide about 200 seniors with homes ranging from apartments to cottages to safe, family-style living quarters for individuals needing memory support.

Jennings CEO Lisa Brazytis started the media tour Aug. 20 in the spacious lobby/dining area of the apartment building visible from Auburn Road in Munson Township. She provided the following information in packets.

Notre Dame Village Apartments

Four apartment floor plans range from studio (578 square feet) to two bedrooms (1,054 square feet) and include in-suite laundry and underground parking. Rent includes all utilities and starts at around $1,100 for single-occupancy studio apartments.

Residents can use community rooms, have meals in the dining room and small domestic pets are allowed. Elevators access all three floors and activities and shopping trips are planned to accommodate residents.

Some rooms are designed to support those with mobility impairment and the kitchens come equipped with appliances.

Notre Dame Assisted Living

Individuals suffering from memory impairment will find understanding staff and comfort in the “small house” atmosphere. Twelve rooms with private bathrooms lead to the bright, spacious living room and common dining area.

It is one of very few small houses in Northeast Ohio, Brazytis said, adding the staff is specially trained to understand what patients with dementia want when they are trying to communicate.

“Every behavior has meaning,” she said, adding the Jennings’ memory support program is state of the art.

“We are very excited to have this as an offering to the community,” she said.

The small house has secure inside space and an enclosed courtyard. The Jennings pamphlet explains small-house, person-centered care is a holistic approach honoring partnership, individuality, choice, privacy and dignity, security, community and enjoyment.

Notre Dame Cottage Homes

For individuals or couples, including one person age 65 or older, who want totally independent living in a country atmosphere, a cottage home may be ideal.

The two floor plans, each about 2,100 square feet, include a master bedroom and bath, a second bedroom and separate full bath, front porches, laundry and two-car garages. One plan provides a dining room and the other a den, with upgrades available.

Twelve cottages are planned, Brazytis said, with six of them expected to be complete by the end of September.

Cottages rent for $2,700 per month for one person and $2,850 for two, she said.

Jennings takes care of basic landscaping, yard care and exterior home maintenance, and residents can plant a garden if they wish, she said.

Small pets are permitted in the cottages and apartments, and may visit at the memory care small house.
