Geauga Sweet Strings welcomed summer at Burton Library June 21, in recognition of International Make Music Day and the summer solstice.

Pat Urquhart, a member of the group, said this year, the string group was joined by Hudson High School tuba player Ben Wagner.

“He wanted to know if he could join us with his tuba,” Urquhart said. “We loved it. We ended up sounding like those bands in New Orleans that follow funerals.”

Another member of the group played along with her kazoo.

The group, which practices every Tuesday afternoon at the Chardon Senior Center on Ravenwood Drive, includes those who play the dulcimer, the hammer dulcimer, the harmonica, the banjo and the guitar. Anyone is welcome to join the group, and Urquhart said most people join the group without knowing how to play.
