Adrian C. Kooyman

Adrian C. Kooyman, age 74, lifelong Chardon, Ohio, resident, peacefully passed away at his home on May 15, 2026.

Born on June 28, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio, Adrian was the beloved son of Peter and Priscilla (nee Bright) Kooyman.

Adrian was a proud graduate of Chardon High School and spent many dedicated years working as a machinist for Sawyer Technical Materials until his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

On Oct. 11, 1980, Adrian married the love of his life, Debra Van Horn. Together they built a life centered on family, love and devotion. Debra preceded him in death on July 25, 2018, and Adrian carried her memory in his heart every day.

Adrian found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved NASCAR, working outdoors and cheering on all Cleveland sports teams as well as Chardon athletics. He generously gave his time as a Little League baseball coach, where he made a lasting impact on many young athletes and families throughout the community.

Adrian also had a special place in his heart for animals and lovingly fostered puppies through the Geauga Mama Dogs and Pups organization.

More than anything, Adrian treasured the time he spent with his family. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his sons and grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter, love and pride.

He will be deeply missed by his loving sons, Jason Kooyman, of Cleveland, and Jeffrey Kooyman, of Chardon; and by his cherished grandchildren, Aiden and Isabella.

Adrian was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debra; and his parents, Peter and Priscilla Kooyman.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 5-7 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home.

A private burial will be held.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Geauga Mama Dogs and Pups, P.O. Box 107, Burton, OH 44021.

Arrangements are entrusted to The Original Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences and memories may also be shared there.
