Charles J. Imars

Charles J. Imars, 90, of Burton, Ohio, passed away peacefully Feb. 12, 2026, at his home.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 17, 1935, to the late J. Basil and Helena (nee Hess) Imars Ward.

Charles grew up in Cleveland and spent many years of his life in Gates Mills, Ohio, before moving to Burton Village. He was a graduate of the University School and went on to attend Colgate and the Reserve University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Charles was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and began his service in 1957.

During his youth, Charles cherished time spent on his grandmother’s farm in Mantua, Ohio, and a period living in China.

He worked with the family business, McNally Doyle Company, in Cleveland, during his early years.

As an adult, Charles found joy in cooking for large Christmas gatherings, fostering Golden Retrievers through Golden Retrievers in Need (G.R.I.N.), and delivering meals for the Geauga County Department on Aging’s Home Delivered Meals program. He also enjoyed day trips, travels to Canada and the Caribbean, and was a talented equestrian.

Charles was a well-known and accomplished restaurateur and chef within his community. He owned and operated the Red Fox Restaurant in Gates Mills and later the Burton Fox in Burton Village.

Charles is survived by his dear friend and partner of 25 years, Margo Reda, of Burton Village.

Though Charles outlived many of his contemporaries, he deeply valued his enduring friendships with Cliff and Sally Cherni, Billie Murton, Ric and Dawn Wojotowicz, the Kim Blake and Scott Martin families, Abbie Martin, Rex Brobst and many others.

His loved ones extend heartfelt gratitude to his compassionate care team at Adorations Hospice.

Memorial contributions may be made to: “The Sub Zero Mission – Nobody Should Freeze to Death in America,” 1760 N. Ridge Road, Painesville, OH 44077.

A memorial service will be held at Best Funeral Home, 15809 Madison Road, Middlefield, Ohio, on Feb. 16, 2026, at 7p.m., officiated by Father Jacob Bearer. Family and friends will be received from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
