Dr. Kayoshi Masuoka

Dr. Kayoshi Masuoka, age 98, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 11, 2026.

He was born in 1928 in Long Beach, Calif., to Nashitaro and Kazu Masuoka. He moved to Ohio in 1945 after spending his high school years incarcerated at Heart Mountain Concentration Camp in Wyoming along with his family.

He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1948 with a degree in pharmacy. After serving two years in the Army, he returned to OSU and graduated with a medical degree in 1958. He opened a solo practice in family medicine in Chardon in 1962, becoming a beloved community doctor for several decades until his retirement in 1988.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Wilmot Masuoka; sons Jim (Liz) and Fred (Kari); daughter, Tami; and four grandchildren, Joshua (Kelsey), Maggie (Dylan), Jonathan and Sarah (Jacob).

Throughout his life, he enjoyed golfing, skiing and gardening, and was a lifelong student, always striving to learn more about the world.

Lovingly known as Grampy, his grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Always humble, he requested no funeral and no disruption of the time and resources of the living.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation, 1539 Road 19, Powell, WY 82435 (https://www.heartmountain.org/donate/); or the Geauga County Dog Shelter, 12513 Merritt Road, Chardon, OH 44024.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Original Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.burrservice.com.
