Edward Lee Cavey

He was born on Nov. 17, 1941, in Frostburg, Md., to parents La Vern and Leo Cavey. He married Shirely Mavis (nee Miller) on Jan. 19, 1963, in Painesville, Ohio, at the Community Christian Church.
Ed retired at the age of 72 after spending many years doing tree trimming, which he loved.
He liked to fish, hunt and do woodworking. One of his favorite activities was walking his dog, of which he had many over the years. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Sassy.
Ed’s whole life he was always there to help any friend or family member who was in need of a place to stay, a meal or just a conversation.
Ed is survived by his children, Dawn M. Skidmore (Nick), of Claridon Township, Ohio, Denise M. McAllister (Paul), of Chardon, Deena M. Harper (Solomon), of Hambden Township, Ohio; grandchildren, Kaylee and TJ Wells, Breanne and Matthew Barnuaskas, Shaylynn and Steven Levesque, Kelsey and Brad Cardina, Micaela and Jimmy Ebert, Shane McAllister, Branson and Samantha Skidmore, Miranda and Joshua Davis; great-grandchildren, Rori, Brad, Everly, Riley, Harlie, Amelia, Sadie, Callum and baby Skidmore due in February of 2026; many nieces and nephews; and siblings Shirley Jean Schrout, of Morgantown, W. Va., and Esther Baumgartner, of Painesville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mavis Cavey, on July 9, 2024; parents, La Vern and Leo Cavey; and a brother, Donald Cavey.
A graveside burial at Hambden Cemetery will be held in the spring.
