Edward Love
Edward Love was born on Aug. 15, 1938, in Athens, Ohio, to Otis and Flodie (née Edwards) Love.
He graduated in 1956 from Berkshire High School, where he was a respected member of the wrestling team, a sport that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Following high school, Edward proudly served in the United States Army, where he worked in a tank division famously known as 2nd Armored Division.
His mechanical expertise and dedication during his service opened the door to a career at Lubrizol Corporation, where he worked as a mechanical lab technician despite not having formal collegiate training. His work there provided him opportunities to travel the world—an experience he valued deeply.
Edward had a lifelong passion for tinkering with cars, especially his cherished Model A. He was a familiar face at car auctions and swap meets, often accompanied by his grandchildren, who happily inherited his love for all things automotive. Sharing his hobbies with them was one of his greatest joys.
A devoted member of the Masonic fraternity, Edward was a Mason and served as a Past Master, exemplifying leadership, fellowship and service. He and his beloved wife, Geraldine, were also proud volunteers with the Century Village Museum of Geauga County, dedicating their time to preserving local history.
Edward was also known for his generous spirit in the kitchen. His homemade cookies were legendary, especially among his grandsons’ wrestling team. He never baked for just a few; he made enough for everyone, ensuring each member of the team felt included. His presence at matches was eagerly anticipated and his quiet support meant the world to those around him.
In addition to cooking, Edward found joy in woodworking. He lovingly crafted furniture and built desks for his grandchildren—pieces that will remain treasured reminders of his steady hands and generous heart.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geraldine; his parents, Otis and Flodie (née Edwards) Love; and his sister Melody.
Edward is survived by his daughters, Julie (Bruce) McMurray and Deanna Love; his brothers, Joe (Glenda) Love and Jim (Brenda) Love; his sisters Sandy (Tom, deceased) Kovacic and Linda (Denny) Vlack; his grandchildren, Garrett (Brianna) McMurray, Joshua (Marissa) Espinosa, Hannah Espinosa, Corey (Jen) McMurray and Zachary (Rannie) McMurray; eight great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Edward’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s name to the Century Village Museum of Geauga County. https://centuryvillagemuseum.org/donate/
Edward will be remembered for his steady strength, generous heart, mechanical mind, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the furniture he built, the cookies he baked and the memories he created with those who were blessed to know him.
