Eleanor Ruth Shaver
Eleanor Ruth Shaver, age 87, of Millersburg, Ohio, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Majora Lane Care Center, Millersburg, following a short illness.
A woman of faith and compassion, her mailbox flag was always up.
Eleanor’s mission was carried out by lending an ear and always offering words of encouragement through letter writing to family, friends, community members and perfect strangers who had the need for a kind word. She was a prayer warrior.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. John’s Evangelical Covenant Church of Millersburg (8670 OH-39, Millersburg), with Pastor Sara Charlton officiating.
Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at St. John’s Evangelical Covenant Church and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.

The daughter of Eric M. and Lillian (nee Jones) Warburton, Eleanor was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Cleveland, and attended Shaker Heights High School.
In 1957, she graduated from Ohio University, in Athens, where she met Clyde Ellsworth Shaver from Nelsonville, Ohio. They were married on Oct. 26, 1957, and moved to Astoria, Ore., where Clyde was stationed with the U.S. Navy. Clyde preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2006.
Returning to Ohio for the birth of their first child, Eleanor worked at Highland View Hospital as a medical social worker from 1960 to 1965. After the birth of her second son, she was a full-time homemaker.
In 1969, they moved to Middlefield, in Geauga County, and became members of Mapleview Mennonite Church for 35 years. In 2004, they moved to Holmes County and she became active in Grace Mennonite Church. In 2020, she joined her son’s family at St. John’s ECC Church.
As a couple, Clyde and Eleanor enjoyed collecting primitive antiques.
Eleanor was an avid patron of the public library. She was a member of St. John’s ECC Women’s Ministry and Berlin Mennonite sewing group, was a Hospice volunteer and volunteered at Save-N-Serve and Holmes County Historical Society. She was a long-time nursery school teacher at Mapleview.
She is survived by four children and their spouses: son, Eric M. (Cheryl) Shaver, DVM, of Millersburg, and their children, Katy Shaver, PharmD, and Angela Fry; son, Samuel Roy (Amanda) Shaver, of Apex, N.C., and their children, Jason Shaver, Ryan Shaver, Jacob Shaver, Lillian Zilli and Maggie Shaver; son, Jonathan M. (Iris) Shaver, PhD, of Minneapolis, Minn., and their children, Avraham Shaver, Ariel Shaver and Amital Shaver; and son, Mark J. (Stacey) Shaver, of Middlefield, and their niece, Olivia Misterka.
Eleanor has two great-grandchildren; and surviving siblings: brother James (Gail) Warburton, of Dublin, Ohio, and sister, Margaret (Ken) Kelling, of Kent, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Kathy Warburton, of Upper St. Clair, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde; brother John Warburton; and nephews, Jimmy and Michael.
The family would like to thank the Ledges neighborhood for their care and friendship; the staff of LifeCare Hospice and Majora Lane, and those that were able to visit and send cards.
