Freda McCartney
Freda McCartney was surrounded by loved ones as she passed away peacefully Feb. 18, 2024.
She was born in Moorefield, Ohio, in Harrison County, to the parents of Chester and Ruth Mills Cramblett. She was the youngest of seven children who have all preceded her in death.
Freda married her high school sweetheart, William D. McCartney, on July 10, 1949, who also preceded her in death on June 4, 2008.
Freda was a devoted wife and mother of five children, and made sure all were clothed, in part, through her skill and love of sewing. She even led a 4-H Club and supported the Crescendo Club.
Through her love of reading, she volunteered with the library auxiliary and helped out several years at the Book Sale during the Maple Festival.
She was a member of the Chardon United Methodist Church, where she had served as treasurer, participated in United Methodist Women and enjoyed being part of their bell choir.
She worked many years as a real estate title examiner in Chardon.
In her retirement, Freda enjoyed reading, golf and, more recently, played in several Bridge groups.
She continued her love of sewing with special family projects or whenever anyone requested mending. Through the church, she also sewed clothes that were sent to Africa for school-aged girls.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, and especially her best friend, Bud Field.
Survivors are her sons Sheldon (Rebecca) McCartney, of Chardon, and Scott (Susan) McCartney, of Parrish, Fla.; daughters, Sharon McCartney, of Mesa, Ariz., and Sandra (Tim) Allard, of Auburn Township; grandchildren, Nathan (Amy) McCartney, of Huntsburg Township, Erin (Will) Wonders, of Montville Township, Amanda (Glenn Jr.) Gierman, of Chardon, Brandon (Erica) Robishaw, of Mesa, Ariz., and Brittney Allard, of Cleveland.
She has eight great-grandchildren, Glenn III, Brylin, Andrew, Moira, Jocelyn, Braydon, Carter and Shannon.
She was also preceded in death by her son Samuel McCartney; and grandson Benjamin Robishaw.
