FredaMay Jordan
FredaMay Jordan (nee Artman), 89, of Troy Township, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 5, 2024, surrounded by her two remaining daughters after a lingering illness.
FredaMay was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Ashtabula, to Florence Artman. After the death of her mother in 1950, she and her younger siblings were placed into foster care. FredaMay was eventually sent to the home of Rev. John and Katie Strine.They were instrumental in sharing with her God’s love and she accepted the Lord as her savior while in their home.
FredaMay moved to Cleveland for work where she met Homer “Bud: at a boarding house. They married in Kentucky on Nov. 12, 1955, and were married 67 years until his passing in December 2022.
FredaMay was a hard worker. She held various jobs over the years, including head cook at the Viking Restaurant, clerk at Convenient Food Mart in Chardon and owner/operator of a cake and candy store. She had to stop working due to health issues but continued to do cakes and candy from home at her own pace.
FredaMay and Bud had a garden and canned everything they grew.
She loved to sew, crochet and was obsessed with word search puzzles at the end of her life. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a faithful member at The Church at Troy and enjoyed singing in the choir.
FredaMay will be greatly missed by her daughters Deborah (David) Garlich and Pamela (Phillip) Malensek; son-in-law, Curtis (Heather) Stroede; nine grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Garlich, Chauntel Garlich, Jason Stroede, Amanda (Jared) Nolin, Ken (KellyJo) Stroede, Matthew (Malisa) Malensek, Aretta (Gene) Vanderpool, Meredith (Sam) Severt and Luke (Kalah) Malensek; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters.
She also leaves a sister-in-law, Ellen (Bob) Weir; brother-in-law, Leonard (Dolores) Holcomb; and many nieces and nephews.
FredaMay was preceded in death by her mother, Florance Artman; father, John Kalinowski; husband, Homer Jordan;daughter KathyJo Ann Stroede; son, Steven Joseph Jordan; daughter Bonnie Kay McKenzie; and all her siblings, Bernice, Arthur, Robert, Clarence, Dolores, Doris, Beverly, Bernard Jr. and Jack Lee.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, from 4-7 p.m., at The Church at Troy, 18712 Mumford Road, Troy Township. Her celebration of life will be Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at 11 a.m., also at the church.
Burial will be at the Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggested a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association; or plant a rose bush in the spring.
