Frederic Bruce Weikart

He was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Columbiana County, Ohio, and spent his early years in Washingtonville, Ohio. He was the son of Walter Bruce Weikart and Florence (nee Bush) Weikart. The family later settled in Kiwanis Lake in Newbury Township, where Fred grew up. He graduated from Newbury High School, where he served as class president and played six-man football for the Black Knights.
Fred served in the United States Army during the Korean War conflict in 1953 and 1954.
He married Agnes Mary Kamenca on Feb. 23, 1957. They shared 66 years of marriage until her passing on Nov. 1, 2023. Together they made their home on Rider Road in Burton, Ohio, a beautiful property they cherished. There they raised their two children and spent their entire married life.
The couple enjoyed traveling over the years, including trips to Europe, Canada, Aruba, Hawaii and many memorable visits to Florida.
An avid outdoorsman, Fred hunted, trapped and fished throughout his life. He especially loved fishing with family at the Davis family lake.
The Weikart home on Rider Road hosted countless gatherings over the years, where Fred proudly took charge as head cook for pig roasts and fish and frog-leg cookouts.
Fred possessed a strong work ethic and held several occupations, including operating and selling heavy equipment and selling insurance. He and Agnes also owned and operated The Switching Post restaurant in Windsor, Ohio, during the 1970s. The entire family worked there, creating lasting friendships and treasured memories.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Andrea Hampton, and her husband, Douglas, of Cortland, Ohio; his son, Eric Weikart, and his wife, Kim, of Burton; his brother, Charles, and his wife, Carolyne; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Peggy LaRue (Weikart) Kozelka.
A private burial service will be held with the family at Welton Cemetery in Burton.
Arrangements are entrusted to Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chardon, Ohio. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.burrservice.com.
