Hans Roland Veit
Hans Roland Veit was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1930. His family was split up due to wartime persecution and he was raised in Innsbruck, Austria. Hans eventually immigrated to the United States in 1949.
After serving with distinction in the United States Army, he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan and received his Juris Doctorate from the Franklin Marshall College of Law.
After many years of private practice in Solon, he was elected as Court of Common Pleas Judge of Geauga County, where he presided for 18 years.
Hans married Renate E. Kielmann in 1955 and they settled in Chagrin Falls, where they raised four children. He retired in 1994 and he and Renate travelled extensively. During this time they resettled in Venice, Fla.
An avid world traveler, sailor, skier and a lifelong patron of the arts, his true passion was playing tennis, which he played almost every day for 78 years.
Hans is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Renate Eleonore Veit, currently of Venice, Fla.; his four children, Christopher Veit, of Wake Forest, N.C., Paul Veit, of Newport, R.I., Anthony Veit, of Crested Butte, Colo., and Barbara Veit Hekler, of Boston, Mass.; his six beloved grandchildren; and his extended family throughout the world.
