Jack Smith

Jack Smith, age 87, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023.

He was born in December of 1935, in Cleveland, to the late Pearl and Norman Smith.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elaine and Margaret; brother Charles; and son Jeff.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marilyn Smith; son Paul (Rachel) Smith; and brother Tom Smith.

Jack served his country in the U.S. Army, when he was called upon during the draft. Afterwards, he dedicated 42 years working for Mettler Toledo, Inc.

He spent most of his life living in Chester Township, where he was an active member of his community and church.

After he retired, he was an active member of the Kirtland Senior Center. At the senior center, he enjoyed playing pool, bocce ball, helping out with lunches, pancake breakfasts and safety town, and he even served on the board. He also enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics playing bocce ball.

In his free time, Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking and fishing.

Jack loved his family and having everyone around during the holidays and special occasions. He was always quick with a smile, a joke or a funny short story to make those around him laugh and be happy. He was quick to make friends wherever he went and was a delight to be around. He will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 30, 2023, at the Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
