James Leroy Brest

James Leroy Brest, age 78, of Andover, formerly of Middlefield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 3, 1945, in Tulsa, Okla., to the late Walter J. and Juanita J. (nee Hogue) Brest.

James graduated from Chardon High School and attended Kent State University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969.

He was a former member of Mapleview Church; a member, past Vice President and President of Middlefield Jaycees; a director, past Vice President and President of Middlefield Chamber of Commerce; past President of the East Geauga Kiwanis; and, recently, a Chaplin and member of the Fraternal Order of Andover # 4053 Eagles.

James worked as an Advertising Account Executive for the Geauga Times Leader in Chardon until it closed. He finished his work career, retiring from Truline Industries.

He enjoyed camping and going to the campground’s dances.

James will be sadly missed by his daughter, Ashley (Rick) Misterka, of Willoughby; brother, Jerry (Diana) Brest, of Windsor; grandchildren, Ricky and Jackson; niece, Brittany (Kegan) Harmes, of Kansas; and a nephew, Jacob (Justin O’Dell) Brest, of Warren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. until his Military Honors Service at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield.
