Jeffery Todd Walters

Jeffery Todd Walters, 68 years old, of Munson Township, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, 2023, at his home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1955, in Clovis, N.M., where his parents were stationed at the U.S. Air Force Base located there.

Jeff was the oldest child of George and Lucille (nee Strong) Walters, and grew up in Huntsburg Township, and graduated from Cardinal High School in 1973. He then attended the Florida Institute of Technology, from 1973-1976, where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Oceanography and Environmental Technology.

Upon graduation, Jeff moved out west and worked several jobs, of which his last one there was as a surveyor for Exxon.

He returned home in 1980 and later married his best friend and love of his life, Laura Lynn Cook, in 1985. They had two children, Lindsey and Tyler.

Jeff’s love for his children and wife was immeasurable. He supported them unconditionally, attending all their sporting events and always encouraged them to be the best they could be.

In 1990, he became a member of the International Union of Operators and embarked on an apprenticeship that started a 27-year span working in the asphalt paving industry. From Schloss Paving to finishing his tenure with the Shelly Company, he loved what he did and was widely respected for the level of his work ability and loyalty by his employers.

Jeff retired from asphalt work in 2017. He made many friends over the years paving and his Schloss “band of brothers” continued into his retirement.

Jeff was always known as someone who would help anyone, neighbor, friend, family or stranger.

In the winter months, when he would be unemployed, he plowed driveways for over 30 people. He was also “Mr. Mom” for his children during those months as well.

He had a tremendous love for the outdoors. From dirt bike riding with his cousins, Tim and Tad Thurling, along with Jack Sudyk and Rod Zeigler, he spent many years on his motorcyles. Jeff even taught his Laura and his children how to ride as well.

He loved camping and his children grew up from toddlers to teens loving it as much as he did.

Jeff’s love for sports included basketball, football and baseball on all high school, college and professional levels. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and was a season ticket holder for 22 years.

He is survived by his most beloved wife, Laura; children, Lindsey (fiancé, Nathan Haber) Walters, Tyler (Rachel) Walters; grandchildren, Rowan and Finn Walters, and Lonni Haber; sisters, Tina, Brenda, Linda; and several nieces and nephews.

Jeff will also be fondly remembered by other family members and friends.

When Jeff retired, he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), which began in 2015. He bravely fought this disease for nine years, all the way up until his death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeff’s name can be sent to ALS Association, Northern Ohio Chapter, 6133 Rockside Road, Suite 301, Independence, OH 44131, so others suffering from ALS can be helped like he was by this tremendous organization.

The family would like to say “thank you” to everyone who helped over the last years with your support, love, and prayers. God bless you all!

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Best Funeral Home, 15809 Madison Road, Middlefield, 440-632-0818. Online condolences may be sent at www.bestfunerals.com.
