John Richard Sudyk Sr.

John Richard Sudyk Sr., 101 years old, passed away on Jan. 18, 2024, at Thistle House Senior Living Home in Chardon.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen “Billie” Sudyk; brother, Nick Sudyk; sisters, Mary Schroeder, Julia Guzik, Helen Schaefer, Dorothy Lukasik, Joan Heady; father, Alex Sudyk, and mother, Mary Sudyk; and granddaughter Catherine Brown.

He is survived by his daughter, Lucinda (Cindy) Hopkins; son, John “Jack” Sudyk Jr.; grandson, Christopher “Chris” Hopkins; and great-grandchildren, Haley and Madison Brown.

John was a true member of the greatest generation. He served our country in World War II, from D-Day to the end of the war. In his later years, he recounted his experiences in books and speeches, educating the public to value the true experiences of World War II veterans.

John was the Head of Engineering at Johnson Rubber Company, holding many patents in the rubber industry, Vice President at U.S. Molding, member of the Cardinal Schools Board of Education, award-winning photographer, painter, woodcarver, Ukrainian Easter egg artist, adamant supporter of his children’s athletic and scholarship careers, caretaker of the 200-year-old Clarke Farm and avid fisherman his entire life.

He was a mentor to many young people and business associates, giving them excellent advice in life and business.

He always had a joke for everyone to brighten up their day.

Services for John will be held at Huntsburg Congregational Church, 12435 Madison Road, Huntsburg, on Monday Jan. 29, 2024, at 11 a.m., with Pastor RJ Zupancich officiating.

Burial will take place following the services in Huntsburg Cemetery.
