Marilyn Louise Taylor Burnett
Marilyn Louise Taylor Burnett passed away on May 23, 2026, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center.
She was born March 16, 1931, in Chester Township, Ohio, to Ernest F. and Frances (nee Bond) Taylor, and lived in Geauga County her entire life.
On Oct. 21, 1950, at the Community Church in Chesterland, Ohio, Marilyn married the love of her life, Allen R. “Jack” Burnett. They were married for 68 years, 9 months, and together shared so much love, life, tears and joy. She and Jack resided in Hambden Township, Ohio, since 1958, where they raised their family. Jack passed away in 2019.
Marilyn retired in 1993 after 18 years with Mogul/Dexter Chemical Company. Prior to that, she worked for many years at both the Chesterland and Chardon Post Offices.
Marilyn found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments — tending to her flowers and gardens, spending time in the greenhouse Jack lovingly built for her, knitting, reading, traveling across the country with Jack in their RV and quilting. She lovingly sewed quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each made with love and care, true keepsakes for them to treasure.
She was also a gifted writer and family historian, preserving precious memories by writing the story of her and Jack’s life together, the life story of their beloved son Tim, who passed away, Jack’s final years, their family genealogy and a family recipe book.
For 25 years, Marilyn volunteered at Lake Metroparks’ Penitentiary Glen Reservation in the butterfly garden. She also enjoyed country music and watching the birds.
Above all else, Marilyn’s greatest love was her husband Jack and the family they raised together.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Stephens, of Creston, Ohio, Suzanne (Donald) Thompson, of State College, Pa., Sandra Burnett, of Mentor, Ohio, Larry Burnett, of Chardon, Ohio, Terry Burnett, of Eastlake, Ohio, and Dan Burnett (Ron Jaksic), of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Bekki (David), Morgan, Erik (Amanda) Thompson, Kati Kerr (Cory Sapp), Michelle (Kyle) Spehar, Cody (Elizabeth) Stephens and Matt (Megan) Stephens; great-grandchildren, Klaire, Ella, Mckayla, Kameryn, Lilly, Sophia, Lane, Mason, Oliver, Logan and Theo; and step-greats, John and TJ.
She is also survived by her brother Rick (Sylvia) Taylor, of Avon Lake, Ohio; sister-in-law, Barbara Burnett, of Montville Township, Ohio; former sister-in-law, Kathy Jennings; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Jack, of almost 69 years; son Tim; granddaughter Jennifer; brother James; and her parents.
Visitation will be held May 29, 2026, from 4-7 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home May 30, 2026, beginning at 11 a.m. Graveside services will immediately follow at Hambden Township Cemetery, in Hambden.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of her love for the outdoors, Marilyn requested that you plant a tree or perhaps a perennial in her memory.
Services are entrusted to The Original Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.burrservice.com.
