Mary E. Buckey
NEWBURY TWP. – Mary E. (nee Schlecht) Buckey, age 77, of Newbury Township, passed away surrounded by family on Jan. 16, 2020, at Holly Hill Health Care Residence in Newbury.
Mary was born April 14, 1942, to Harold and Martha (nee Reublin) Schlecht, in Ashtabula. She graduated in 1960 from Edgewood High School. Mary continued her education at Kent State University, receiving two bachelor’s degrees.
As a resident of Ashtabula and Geauga counties, her career continued as a teacher throughout Geauga County.
Mary’s passions included her community, her church, nature and conservation. She was a member of many community organizations, including the NUCC, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Kent State Alumni Association and the Geauga County Historical Society.
Survivors include her husband, David A. Buckey; daughter, Holly Buckey; sisters, Jane (Tom) Holden, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Judy Pallutch, of Ashtabula, and Linda Lemponen, of Austinburg; and two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A service will be held at the Newbury United Community Church on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at 11 a.m.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
