Opal L. Pinasky

Opal L. Pinasky, age 96, of Mentor, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Aug. 28, 2023.

She was born to William R. and Anna E. (nee Hamer) Owen, on Oct. 7, 1926, in Carson, N.D.

Opal married John Pinasky on Feb. 10, 1945, in Cleveland, making their home and raising her daughters in Richmond Heights.

Opal and her husband had a family grocery store in Wickliffe for many years. She then worked as an advertising clerk for Sears until retirement.

After retirement, Opal and John wintered in San Diego, Calif., with her sister.

She enjoyed getting together with her friends playing Canasta. She loved reading and doing word searches.

Opal held dear the memories she made while living at Parker Place, living close by her brother Bill.

She was so proud and loved her family dearly.

Opal is survived by her daughters, Mary Anne (Jim) Taglia and Sandy (Randy) Gerzeny; grandchildren, Lorraine (Tony) Distefano, James (Jill) Taglia, Lisa (Ted) Bergstrom, Jennifer Taglia, Wendy (Stefan) Hordinski; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother William Owen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sisters, Mary and Ruth; and brother Hugh.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 1, 2023, at New Promise Church, 8671 Euclid-Chardon Road, Kirtland.

A private family burial will take place at a later date.
