Richard R. Moeller Jr.

Richard R. Moeller Jr., 82, of Bonita Springs, Fla., died on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, in Naples, Fla., after an extended illness.

He had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 2011, moving from Chester Township.

Rich grew up in Chardon, with his parents, Onnie (Lenny) Schade, and his sister, Sue Schade.

He met the love of his life, Judy Hillen Moeller, daughter of Louise and Fred Hillen. They had been married for the past 60 years.

He also is survived by his two children, Julie (Skip) Nyegard and Rick (Loralie) Moeller; and grandchildren, Kirstyn (Brad) Stapleton, Kortney Nyegard, Carlton Moeller and Annabel Moeller.

At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country. After returning home, he earned his associate’s degree while working full-time. He was employed at Lincoln Electric Company for 30 years as well as a successful business owner of Moeller Photography, Inc. for 30 years.

When he finally retired, he stayed active at the Imperial Harbor Club, where he loved to sell 50/50 tickets and play shuffleboard and shoot pool with his friends. He was also vice president of the Civic Board.

He was a member of Mayfield United Methodist Church, the Chesterland Lions Club, the Bonita Springs Eagles Lodge and the Bonita Springs Moose Lodge. He was also a Boy Scout leader, including the National Jamboree, a 4–H Leader in photography, and was the official fair photographer for 10 years.

Rich loved to grow corn on his 3 acres. He was an avid Ohio sports fan “OH-.”

Chances are he took your picture at some point, weddings, portraits, school pictures or sports pictures. He’s the man that made you SMILE!

A graveside service for Richard Moeller will be held on Oct. 21, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Montville Center Cemetery, 9601 Madison Road, Montville Township, with Military Honors provided by the VFW Post 6519 of Chardon.

A celebration of life will also be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, from 2-4 p.m., at Mayfield United Methodist Church, 7747 Mayfield Road, Chesterland.

An additional celebration of life service will be held in Bonita Springs at a date to still be determined when all the “Snow Birds” return.
