Robert Franklin Durey
Robert Franklin Durey, known to many as Bob, passed away on October 28, 2026, at his home in Thompson Township, Ohio, at the age of 77.
He was born on February 18, 1949, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Bob graduated from Berkshire High School and went on to serve his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he worked as a Fire Protection Specialist. He carried the discipline, dependability and sense of duty he learned in service throughout the rest of his life.
After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bob obtained his CDL and began a long career with Chardon Oil, where he worked for more than 30 years. He took pride in his work and valued the people he met along the way. Many of his customers became lifelong friends, a reflection of the easy way he connected with others.
In retirement, Bob continued to enjoy being on the road, serving as a taxi driver for his Amish friends.
Bob loved to make jokes and tell stories about the mischief he got into when he was younger with his hunting buddies. His sense of humor was one of his most memorable gifts.
When he was not driving his car, Bob could often be found riding on his lawn mower, tending carefully to his yard and gardens. He took great pride in the appearance of his home and surroundings.
Bob is survived by his sisters, Sherry Syllaba and Sandy Hissa; his daughter, Jessica (Ben) Fleenor; his grandchildren, Tina (Joe Wharton) Durey, Trista (Patrick Higgins) Durey and Robert M. (Erin Diehl) Durey Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Julie Durey.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Vada (nee Richards) Durey; his wife, Deborah Durey; and his son, Robert M. Durey Sr.
Bob’s presence will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his stories, his laughter and the kindness he showed to others will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Nov. 13, 2026, from 4:30-7:30 p.m., at the Welshfield Inn & Events, 13975 Main Market Road, Troy Township. The Military Honors Presentation will begin at 7 p.m.
