Ronald E. Omaits

Ronald E. Omaits, known affectionately as Ron to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2025, at the age of 87.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1937, in Piney Fork, Ohio, to parents Edward and Elizabeth Omaits.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth; sister, Sylvia Giuliani; brother, Roger Omaits; first wife, Lila Omaits; and son Keith Omaits.

His legacy continues through his beloved wife, Esther (nee Dahs); sons Wayne (Sharon Andersson), Todd (Leslie), Brad (Dee); 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He also was a beloved uncle and cherished friend to many.

A proud graduate of Mayfield High School in 1956, Ron attended The Ohio State University before honorably serving his country in the United States Army. Upon his return from the army, Ron was the owner and operator of the Miles View Inn and later Ohio Auto Top and Glass.

Ron’s love of wood and leather working was evident in the beautiful pieces he created. He enjoyed gardening and was a proud DIY enthusiast.

Ron’s talent for winemaking was recognized when he won best of show at The Great Geauga County Fair in 2009.

He also had a love for cooking and baking. His cookie trays were legendary, especially at Christmas, when he joyfully shared them with everyone.

His love of sports was unmistakable as he cheered on his favorite teams.

Ron’s presence in our lives was a gift and while we will miss his funny stories and loving hugs, his memory will continue to inspire and comfort us. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A visitation and prayer service will be held Aug. 1, 2025, from 5-7 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The funeral service will be held Aug. 2, 2025, at 11 a.m., at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Mason Road, Milan, Ohio. Family will receive visitors from 10-11 a.m. Interment to follow at St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery.
