Rosemary Jencso Balazs

Rosemary Jencso Balazs, age 82, of Chester Township, died on Nov. 26, 2023, at home with her family.

She is survived by her sons, Paul Jr. (Julie), of Munson Township, and Timothy (Veronica), of Concord Township; grandsons, Timothy, Nicholas, Jaron Tager and Justin Tager; and great-granddaughter, Emersyn Joy.

She is preceded in death by her former husband, Paul A. Balazs; father, George Jencso; mother, Ann (Zivoder) Jencso; and sister, Ann Susan (Jencso) Mathews.

Posie was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Cleveland. She graduated from Bedford High School, married Paul A. Balazs in 1962, attended Kent State University and graduated from Lake Erie College in 1973 with a B.A. in Art Education.

In 1972, she moved to Chester Township with her husband and sons. She became active in politics and served as zoning secretary before being elected twice as Chester Township Trustee.

While serving the township, from 1981-1987, she was hired by The Illuminating Company as government affairs representative. She retired from FirstEnergy in 1997.

Posie was active in many organizations, including the Geauga County Township Association, Leadership Ashtabula, President of Geauga County League of Women Voters and Trustee of Chesterland Historical Foundation.

She also was a member of the Hungarian Genealogical Society, served at the Kent State and Department of Aging advisory boards, and the Croatian Fraternal Union.

After retirement, she enjoyed working with her sons in their family business, Jencso Industrial Service, Inc., which her father started in 1958.

Family and friends may call at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland, on Friday Dec. 8, 2023, from 4-8 p.m., where a Celebration of Life will begin at 5 p.m.
