Sandra Sue Hedrick
CLEVELAND – Sandra “Sandy” Sue (nee Mramor) Hedrick, 59, of Cleveland and formerly of Chardon, passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2016, in Buffalo, N.Y.
She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Gary; sons, Erik, of College Station, Texas, and Ronald, of Cleveland; daughter, Helen, of Streetsboro; brothers, Gerald, of Cleveland, and Ron, of Bangkok, Thailand; sister, Juel Leonard (Dennis), of Chagrin Falls; nephews, David Mramor, of New York, N.Y., Tom Maiden, of Maryland, Tony Mramor, of W. Va., and Edward Leonard (Lindsey), of Hudson; nieces, Dr. Betsy Mramor, of South Carolina, Tara Mramor, of Bangkok, Kimberly Maiden, of Maryland; and great-niece, Amelia Leonard.
Sandy parents, Anthony J. and Helen M. (nee Surgey), of Chardon, with whom she was very close, predeceased her in 2001 and 2008, respectively.
Growing up in Chardon, Sandy loved nature and the outdoors, as well as her many pets, especially her dogs and horses.
A straight-A student at Chardon High School, class of 1975, Sandy was a member of the National Honor Society, president of the high school marching band, a majorette, homecoming queen and acted in school plays.
Sandy married Gary Duane Hedrick, formerly of Chester Township, in 1985 and soon after they started their family and made their home at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton. The Air Force soon had them moving from Ohio to the Pentagon, then to Offutt AFB in Nebraska.
Retirement from the Air Force and Sandy’s love for her family brought them back to Chardon, where they continued to raise their three children.
Although Sandy battled health issues over the years, she continuously taught her husband and all three of her children how to love and strive towards goodness.
As each of her children grew and continued their education, Sandy did also and was able to return to school and finish her bachelor’s of art at Cleveland State University. She will be awarded her degree posthumously with the graduating class of 2016. She majored in creative writing and looked forward to writing children’s stories.
Sandy enjoyed being a member of Chardon Toastmasters and always looked forward to speaking about her family or sharing what she was learning at CSU.
A loving, vivacious, sincere, kind-hearted person, Sandy will be sorely missed by family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Little Church in the Vale, Gates Mills, at 2 p.m. on June 25.
All those who loved Sandy are welcome to attend and celebrate Sandy’s life on earth and her new life with her Savior.
