Thomas George Martin
Thomas George Martin, age 80, of Munson Township, passed away Sept. 5, 2024.
He was born Aug. 15, 1944, to William and Katherine (nee Koch) Martin, in Cleveland.
After graduating high school, Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. His service to his country was a source of immense pride throughout his life.
Following his military career, he worked as a computer programmer for the Navy Finance Center, where his meticulous nature and dedication were well-regarded.
Thomas’s passion for coin collecting was more than a hobby; it was a lifelong pursuit that led him to establish the Chardon Coin Exchange. This venture reflected his commitment to preserving history and sharing his knowledge with others.
An enthusiastic sports fan, Thomas enjoyed all forms of athletic competition, which he demonstrated as an outstanding athlete in football, baseball and wrestling at Burton High School, class of 1963.
However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his three beloved grandchildren, Addison, Ash and Tessa. They were the light of his life and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Rita (nee Montana) Martin; son, Tom (Lara) Martin; and his beloved grandchildren, Addison, Ash and Tessa. He is also survived by his brothers Edward (Sharleen) Martin and John (Linda) Martin.
He also leaves many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, and great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Katherine Martin; and siblings Jim Martin, Larry Martin and Carol Rogers.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, from 4-7 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, 401 North St., Chardon, with interment immediately following at Claridon Center Cemetery.
