Walter Thomas Peckis

Walter Thomas Peckis, age 78, passed away on Dec. 31, 2025.

He was the loving husband of Helen Marie (née Wendl) for 58 years. Tom met Helen when attending Chagrin Falls High School (Class of 1966). He also was the loving father of Valarie (Timothy) Mariola and grandfather of Christopher and Caitlyn (Noah, fiancé), all of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He was the cherished son of the late Walter Joseph and Marie (née Curschman); beloved brother of James (deceased), Jane West and Charles (Theresa) Peckis; and brother-in-law to Stuart (Debbra) Wendl.

Walter proudly served the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia, and working in the Pentagon during his two years of service.

He spent his career working as a telecommunications specialist for Standard Oil, BP and Norstan. He worked for BP from the first day it occupied 200 Public Square until the day it closed its headquarters.

Tom served as a volunteer firefighter with the Russell Township Fire Department for nearly 20 years. He was a firefighter and paramedic, and served as assistant chief before becoming fire chief in 1983. He served as fire chief for 11 years.

Tom was an avid coin enthusiast and member of the Warrensville Heights Coin Club, North Coast Coin Club of Solon and the Tri-County Coin Club of Chardon.

He also enjoyed orchids and was a member of the Greater Cleveland Orchid Society, previously serving as society president.

Services will include a celebration of life at a later date.
