William Conrad Collier

William “Bill” Conrad Collier passed away on Dec. 19, 2024, in Middlefield, after battling Parkinson’s disease.

Bill was born on May 30, 1938, in Cleveland, to Minor and Marguerite (nee Ceresa) Collier.

Bill was married on Aug. 30, 1968, to Mary Jane (nee Osborn) Collier. They have two daughters, Danielle (John) Weckesser, of Gainesville, Fla., and Margaret (Shawn) Reddington, of New City, N.Y. Bill had four grandchildren, Aaron, Seth, Larissa and Cara.

Bill graduated from Fenn College in 1962 and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall College of Law in 1966. He practiced law for over 50 years in Geauga County, only stopping when the Parkinson’s forced it. He loved his job and took pride in getting up and going to work every day.

He was also a Middlefield Village councilman for many years. He took his civic duty very seriously and spent his time on the council sitting on the zoning board and advocating for community services to benefit all the residents of Middlefield.

Bill often enjoyed walking around Middlefield, especially in the mornings when he would walk into the town center for breakfast. He was widely recognized and could often be seen wearing his wide-brimmed hat and enjoying a cigar.

He enjoyed listening to his short-wave radio; one of his favorite programs was Coast to Coast with Art Bell which covered paranormal phenomena.

He liked fishing and he would plan family fishing vacations in northern Michigan with his brother and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, John.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Bolt, of Charlevoix, Mich.; and his wife, Mary, children and grandchildren.

There will be a visitation at Burr Funeral Home in Chardon on Jan. 3, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, with funeral services at 12 noon followed by a burial at Middlefield Cemetery in Middlefield.
