Perennial Exchange
Sept. 10, 10 a.m.
A perennial exchange, “Bring a Plant, Take a Plant,” will be held in the Bostwick Room. Bring extra perennials to swap and take the same number of plants home. Suggested number of plants to bring is five or more.
Plants may be brought in from 9-10 a.m. Label each plant if possible, and bring each plant in a separate bag or container. All unclaimed plants will be given away at the end.
The free program is open to the public; registration is required.
Medicare 101
Sept. 14, 7 p.m.
This is an introductory overview of Medicare for those new to Medicare or wanting to help a family member or friend. Topics include: Medicare parts A, B, C, D and Medicare supplementals. Adam Van Boxel, from the Geauga County Department on Aging, is a trained Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program counselor and will present objective information and updates.
This program is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
Local Author Fair
Sept. 17, 1-3 p.m.
The Heritage House, Chardon Square
The open house event provides the opportunity to meet local writers who will be selling and signing copies of their books. Eighteen authors from northeast Ohio are expected, including Barbara Hacha, Mary Ryan, Elizabeth Marquard, Ruth Morhard, Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Newman and others.
The free program is open to the public. Registration is not required.
Financial Education Series Workshop
Sept. 19, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Start thinking about money and money issues in a new way. Topics include communicating about money, tracking spending, identifying spending leaks and organizing documents and valuable papers. Sponsored by Geauga County Job and Family Services, Geauga County OSU Extension and the Geauga County Public Library, Chardon branch.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
College Admissions Sessions
Sept. 14 and 28, 6:30 p.m.
The Lake/Geauga Educational Assistance Foundation will hold free college admissions application sessions for high school seniors and their parents at the LEAF Resource Center, 8221 Auburn Road in Concord.
Admissions representatives from various types of schools will address questions regarding the college admissions process, including procedures as well as common mistakes students make on college admissions applications.

CARES Offers Tutor Training
Sept. 22, 6-9 p.m.
CARES, the Center for Adult Reading and Educational Services, will conduct a free tutor training for adults interested in working with adult learners in need of ABLE/ESOL services (Adult Basic and Literacy Education/English for Speakers of Other Languages). The training session will take place in the Technology Building at Auburn Career Center, 8221 Auburn Road, Concord Township.
Upon completion of the training, volunteer tutors will assist students to improve their basic literacy skills, prepare to take the GED test or develop proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing English.
The workshop, related materials, beverages and snacks will be provided. There is an optional book fee of $20.50 to purchase a supplemental training book.
