Berkshire Spelling Bee Champ

Fifth-grader and second-time champion Gavin Foye won the annual spelling bee by correctly spelling the word “succulent” after several rounds of spelling, taking contestants well into the eighth-grade Scripps National Spelling Bee word list. Runner-up is fellow fifth-grader Jordan Price, with seventh-grader Bleu Ceroky taking third amongst the group of fourth to eighth-graders.

All of the contestants from Burton Elementary School, Ledgemont Elementary School and Berkshire Middle School were commendable as they stood in front of a packed room full of family, teachers and administrators to spell their hearts out. It takes much courage to participate and these students showed real grit.

Gavin will go on to represent Berkshire Local School District at the Geauga County Spelling Bee on Feb. 15. Best of luck to him in the next stage of competition and job well done to all of the 2018 spelling bee participants.
