Junior High PenOhio Competition
On April 21, four Berkshire student writers participated in the Junior High PenOhio Regional Tournament held at Shaker Heights Middle School. Eighth-graders Kelsey Adams and Jude Connors and seventh-graders Abbi Connors and Marissa Tiber were among the 172 students from 19 different school districts who took part in the creative writing competition.
PenOhio allows writers to meet, compete and receive recognition and awards for excellence in creative writing during three rounds of impromptu writing and a chance to qualify to compete at the state tournament held in May.
Spanish NHS Inductions
On April 23, Spanish Honor Society inducted new members into the Berkshire High School Rigoberta Menchú Chapter. The new students inducted are Isabelle Brent, Josiah Cheung, Jacob Kastor, Julia Kastor, Jillian Kumher, Katie McGee, Madison Romask, Morgan Scott, Lucas Stoddard, Lianna Tiber and Kate Zeliznak.
Students are selected based on scholarship in general and particularly Spanish courses. These students also have demonstrated exemplary character, leadership and interest in Spanish activities. The new inductees will join existing members in service activities next school year that both support the school and community.
2018 Summer Volleyball Camp
Camp will take place June 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to noon and is for girls currently in grades 3-7. The cost will be $45 and each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and instruction on passing, serving, setting, hitting and team play. Volleyball skills and Berkshire program concepts will be taught by varsity coach Joni Prots, assistant varsity coach Jamie Bower and other Berkshire coaches and varsity players.
In order to plan camp effectively, the coaches need to know the number of participants ahead of time. Please send enrollment and cash or check payable to Berkshire for $45 by May 18. Registration forms are available on the district website.
Payment and forms can be given to Mrs. Bower at Burton Elementary School, Mrs. McKeon in the office at Ledgemont Elementary School, or Ms. Prots in room 206 at the high school.
Check-in is at 8:45 a.m. on June 19 at the Berkshire High School gym. Campers should wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes and bring water each day.
