Through blistering heat, multiple bus issues and the daunting crowds, Berkshire’s eighth-graders prevailed as they toured the nation’s capital on a three-day trip to Washington, D.C., on May 2-4. Seventy-one eighth-graders and their seven chaperones were able to visit such sites as the Capitol Building, Arlington National Cemetery, the World War II Memorial, the African American Museum, the Natural History Museum, the U.S. Holocaust Museum, the Supreme Court, the American History Museum, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, the Library of Congress, the Iwo Jima Memorial and much more.
Despite the temperatures reaching near record highs in the 90s, students walked D.C., toured the amazing sites, learned a lot and bonded with their classmates. Here’s to another successful eighth-grade trip and special thanks to coordinator Rich Guthrie for his time and effort in organizing all the details of the trip and to the six other chaperones who traveled along to help things run smoothly.
