Preston Family Makes Generous Donation

The Berkshire Local School District extends its most sincere gratitude to the Chevy Network and Preston Chevrolet in sponsoring an amazing pledge of $200,000 over the next 10 years for athletic facilities upgrades. At a recent check presentation ceremony, Jackie Preston Franck presented a check to Superintendent John Stoddard and Athletic Director Brian Hiscox reflecting of the donation amount during a tour of the new preK-12 school building on Sept. 21.

Over the years, the Preston family and their corporate entities, including Preston Chevrolet and Preston Superstore, have been extremely generous in their support of the schools. The Preston Superstore in Burton Village has been family owned and operated for more than 28 years and includes new vehicles such as Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford and Kia along with a variety of certified pre-owned makes and models as well.

Specifically, the generous donation from the Preston family will be a sponsorship for the gymnasium flooring as well as the field turf at the outdoor stadium. Please join the Berkshire Local Schools in a grand Badger word of gratitude to the Preston Family and Preston Chevrolet for their generosity and support of the schools.

Badger Lab Now Taking Customers

Berkshire’s Badger Lab Café is now taking customers and being very successful with its activities. Café student workers have been selling coffee and hot chocolate to the staff and student body, developing valuable skills which resemble those that would be required for the service industry and operating a business. Students take orders, budget, market the Badger Lab Café and engage in other retail-type activities.

Special thanks to Janice Shimpan, Shelly Pokorny and Lori Klem, who have aided the students along with the assistance of Mr. Cirino and Mrs. Brzozowski.

Excellence in Financial Reporting

The Berkshire Local Schools congratulates district Treasurer Beth McCaffrey and the entire Treasurer’s Office for earning a profound and high commendation from the Government Finance Officers Association, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence. The award is given to treasurers who demonstrate excellence in financial reporting and for producing a comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020.

The district’s impeccable reporting was determined to reflect the “highest standards, which includes demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure,” according to a letter of recognition from the GFOA. Congratulations to Treasurer Beth McCaffrey and the entire finance team of the Berkshire Local Schools.

Burton Elementary Farewell Open House

Burton Elementary School alumni, former teachers and community members will have the opportunity to take one final walk down the hallways of the school and celebrate wonderful memories at an upcoming alumni and community open house event from 5-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 8. Refreshments, including cider and donuts, will be provided. Parking will be available in the back lot of the school or at nearby Century Village.

Attendees are encouraged to snap some photos and bring a favorite memory, such as a personal story or picture, which will be digitized and archived to share with future generations. After saying a final “good-bye” to the Burton Elementary School building, attendees are welcome to support the Badgers as they play their final home football game at nearby Berkshire High School at 7 p.m.

A future farewell event for current Burton Elementary students and families is being planned. Thank you for the continued support of the Berkshire Local Schools as the district celebrates the memories of the past and prepare for the start of an exciting new chapter.
