AP Scholar Awards

Congratulations to the 65 Chardon High School recipients of the College Board’s Advanced Placement Scholar Awards that recognize high achievement on AP exams taken at the conclusion of the 2022-23 school year.

Each year, nationwide, AP Scholar Award recipients are announced in late summer for exceptional achievement on AP exams taken the previous spring. AP Scholar Awards affirm college-level achievement via the following designations — AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honor and AP Scholar.

Students who earn AP awards and recognitions can include these academic distinctions on their résumés and college applications.

Boosters Recruiting Volunteers

Chardon Athletic Boosters president and merchandise coordinator Jenifer Goodwin has successfully and tirelessly served the non-profit program in dual leadership roles for five years. She has announced she is ready to pass the torch to new volunteer leadership, effective Dec. 1.

Athletic Director Doug Snyder stated, “Profits from Topper Shop merchandise sales and other booster fundraisers provide uniforms and equipment for all the Hilltopper teams — spanning over 58 sports teams at the high school and middle school. I am grateful for the time and commitment that Jenifer has generously given to the Boosters to help make this possible.”

To ensure a smooth transition for the Boosters’ continued success, the non-profit organization is actively recruiting to fill the upcoming vacancies. Many hands make light work. Volunteers can team up with a friend as each adult volunteer position can easily be a shared position as co-presidents and co-merchandise coordinators.

Details on roles and responsibilities can be found on the Chardon Schools news page. The boosters organization supports student athletes from both Chardon High School and Chardon Middle School, but it is not a prerequisite that volunteers have students enrolled in either of those schools.

Mrs. Goodwin stated, “Volunteering with the Boosters has been very rewarding, and I am proud of the success we have had raising money for the many teams we support. Also invaluable has been the sense of community and the friendships I have made because of my roles in the organization. I am excited for the next chapter of Booster leadership to experience this incredible program.”

Mobile Planetarium Visits Park

Park Elementary School students were excited to visit the SkyDome Planetarium from Mobile Ed Productions, Inc. right in their school gymnasium on Sept. 27, catching a glimpse of the Northern Hemisphere.

The learning experience was generously funded by the school’s PTO.

Principal Jill Makee stated, “The students’ smiles, and ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ said it all. I overheard some students talking about how they want to be astronauts when they grow up or work for NASA.”

Team Building at Red Oak Camp

Chardon Middle School sixth-grade teams ventured to Red Oak Camp in Kirtland for a day trip on Sept. 27 and 28. The annual CMS tradition provides a team-centered experience for the grade level.

Students were engaged, rotating through several different activities, including fishing and canoeing, rock climbing and lawn games, archery, gaga and team building. The day also included having lunch together.

CMS sixth-grade teacher Miss Kovalkevich stated, “Hilltoppers had a blast at Red Oak Camp. Lots of team-building, and new life experiences.”
