Invitation to CHS Fall Play

Chardon High School Drama Department thespians will take the Park Auditorium stage at 111 Goodrich Court on Chardon Square Nov. 9, 11 and 12 to bring their fall production of playwright D.W. Gregory’s “Radium Girls” to life for the Chardon community.

Radium Girls is a historical drama that begins in the 1920s and is based on the true stories of a brave group of women who worked in the radium-dial factories during World War I.

Believing the lies told by the radium companies, the women unknowingly subjected themselves to danger as they ingested the chemical. Over time, the truth unfolds and life-altering side effects develop. When no one stands up for the women, they take things into their own hands and fight for their justice.

Showtimes for the Nov. 9 and 11 shows are 7 p.m., and the Nov. 12 matinee begins at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and seniors and are available for purchase online via the tickets and donations page at chardonschools.org. Doors will open for ticket sales and seating 30 minutes before each show.

Ticket presales are at Park Auditorium on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, 2, 6 and 8 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. There will be no in-person ticket sales on Oct. 31 or Nov. 7.

The Nov. 8 dress rehearsal at 7 p.m. is free of charge but is open exclusively to senior citizens and Chardon Schools staff members.

Mentorship Certification

Chardon Early Learning Center kindergarten teacher Jenny Maheu and K-3 music teacher Samantha Puterbaugh attended a two-day training at the Summit County Educational Service Center Oct. 11-2 to earn state certification as Resident Educator Mentors.

With the certification, both educators can now apply this training in mentorship of new Chardon Schools teachers through the Resident Educator Program and Assessment, which spans the first two years of a new educator’s teaching career.
