Food Drive Success

Chardon Middle School Builders Club, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Chardon, took a bite out of community hunger last month when they collected, organized and delivered over 1,500 non-perishable food items for the Geauga Hunger Task Force.

Thank you to Kiwanis secretary Heather Penrod who serves as the point person for the school’s Builders Club; CMS faculty member and Builders Club advisor Amanda Weaver; and the Chardon Schools maintenance department for providing a truck for the collection delivery.

Visitor Check-In System

Chardon Schools debuted EntrySign – a new and improved visitor check-in system – at Chardon Middle School last month, representing phase II of the school’s main entrance security vestibule installation. EntrySign streamlines the visitor registration process and enhances security with features that include a driver’s license or state identification scan to conduct a background check.

Superintendent Mike Hanlon stated, “EntrySign represents yet another important step in the district’s layered approach to enhancing the safety and security of the school environment, a key component of our Success Plan. The district’s rollout of the EntrySign system will also extend to our other four school buildings.”

National Museum of Psychology

Students in Chardon High School teacher Josh Leikala’s Advanced Placement psychology class ventured to the National Museum of Psychology on Nov. 9 to peruse artifacts and advance their knowledge about the inner workings of the brain.

The museum is located in the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology at Akron University.

Thank you to Chardon bus drivers Tara Bulman and Lauren Zingale for providing the field trip’s transportation.

Model U.N. Conference

Chardon High School’s Model United Nations student delegates journeyed to Case Western Reserve University Nov. 6-7 for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs’ MUN autumn conference. MUN is an educational simulation of the United Nations.

Hilltopper delegates participated in various committees, including the General Assembly, UN Office of Outer Space Affairs and UN Economic and Social Committee.

CHS MUN advisor Kristen Niedzwiecki stated, “Our student delegates’ outstanding performance and commitment to addressing complex global issues were evident throughout the conference, earning praise from fellow participants and conference organizers alike.”

Thank you to Chardon Schools bus drivers Joan Sinclair and Lauren Zingale for providing transportation for the two-day event.
