Honor Roll Achievement

Two-thirds of NDCL’s 717 students achieved honor-roll status based upon their first-semester grades, according to a report shared with the school community by assistant Principal Denice Teeples.

“We are proud not only of our students’ achievement but also of the effort, determination, and goal-oriented focus that made their achievement possible,” Mrs. Teeples said.

A breakdown of the data reveals that 25 percent of students earned First Honors (4.00 GPA and above), 30 percent earned Second Honors (3.50-3.99 GPA), and 12 percent earned a place on the Merit Roll (3.25-3.49 GPA). A more detailed analysis by grade level appears in the charts prepared by Mrs. Teeples.

All honor-roll students received certificates signed by Principal Joseph A. Waler to mark their achievement.

“My index finger still has an indentation in it from signing nearly 500 honor certificates,” Mr. Waler quipped.

Robotics Team Excels

NDCL’s Robotics Team and its alliance partners took first place in a field of 15 teams at the Cleveland Regional Tournament at Kirtland High School on Jan. 15.

Junior Alex Nevison serves as team leader, with juniors Nathan Galante and Alex Simerale driving the robot. Junior Nic Ramsey created custom autonomous routines on-the-fly to help the Lions secure a first-seed alliance position.

NDCL also won the Gracious Professionalism Award for exemplifying professionalism and cooperation during the competition. NDCL advances to the state qualifier in the first week of February.

NDCL Awarded $1,000 Grant

NDCL is one of only 30 non-profit organizations in northeastern Ohio to receive a $1,000 grant in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Hospitality Restaurants Group.

“Cleveland Magazine” recently featured the group’s 30 Years, 30 Charities, 30 Days initiative to help organizations and charities that are making a difference in their local communities.

Since opening the Cabin Club in Westlake in 1992, Hospitality Restaurants has slowly built an empire of nine restaurants, including Salmon Dave’s Pacific Grille in Rocky River, downtown’s Blue Point Grille and the Thirsty Parrot, Delmonico’s Steakhouse in Independence, Kingfish in Akron, and Rosewood Grills in Westlake, Strongsville and Hudson.
