 Father-Daughter Dance

On April 22nd, the Notre Dame Parents’ Association transformed the NDES gym into a Hawaiian luau complete with crafts, dancing, lunch and cotton candy. NDES girls, from preschool through eighth grade, enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon with their fathers.

A special thank you goes to chairs Alissa Effner and Tammy Burnette and their team of volunteers for making the event so memorable.

NDES Students Rethink Garbage

On April 22, the world celebrated Earth Day with various events to demonstrate support for environmental protection. In support of Earth Day, many classes at NDES featured Earth Day activities.

Mrs. Debbie Mulhall hosted an Upcycled Creation Contest in her third-grade Challenge class. Students participated this past month by using their creativity and innovation skills to upcycle and repurpose garbage into every day useful products. In addition to reinforcing the three “Rs” — Reduce, Reuse and Recycle — students were challenged to “rethink” how they use products based on need or reusability instead of perceived recyclability.

Winners were: Katie Rhodes, first place for The McDonalds Bird House; Carmen Cirino, second place for The Pool Floater; and Lily Rader, third place for The Greenhouse Gardener Watering Can.

With a little help from the Lorax, kindergartners in Mrs. Elizabeth Looman’s class celebrated Earth Day by discussing ways they can take care of the Earth. They also learned different ways they can make something useful using their Maker Mats in STEM class.
