Big News for the Makerspace
Thanks to a $10,000 grant through the generosity of the McGinty Family Foundation, NDES is adding a new Epilog laser engraver/cutter to the makerspace in the next few weeks. The equipment will greatly enhance the school’s program and all students and faculty members will have access to the creative opportunities now possible.
“It’s so exciting to bring this fabrication tool into our makerspace. It will enrich our students’ technical skills and challenge them to think both creatively and critically, ” says STEM specialist Halle Davis.
How special to receive this generous grant on the eve of Giving Day. It is a true example of how philanthropy benefits the school. Thank you to the McGinty Family Foundation for investing in Catholic education at NDES.
Kindness Rocks
Fifth-grade students were inspired by Patricia MacLachlan’s book, “Edward’s Eyes.” Guided by Mrs. Sabrina Mysyk, students learned about giving to others and the importance of small acts of kindness. They painted rocks and will be spreading their words of encouragement all across Ohio.
Entrepreneur Inspires Students
Junior high students recently had the opportunity to meet with Nate Eaton, winner of the second season of ABC’s “The Toy Box,” who inspired our students to be inventors. Nate is a 2017 graduate of Hiram College and is from the Cleveland area. He shared his inspirational life journey along with the design and testing process of his invention, the Hydroshield Water Dodger. Through his journey, Nate “kept his faith and stayed focused on his dream.” According to Nate, anything students think about, they can create.
Preschool Learning
Students in the 3-year old class have been hard at work learning their numbers and letters. Students are introduced to many different modalities for learning these skills. NDES uses hands-on activities that help to improve letter and number knowledge as well as fine motor skills. Students work with teachers to learn how to write their name and practice correct letter and number formation at the “teacher table” center.
Blue Ribbon Spotlight
Notre Dame Elementary School has the reputation for being not only a school of academic excellence, but a place where children are loved and valued for who they are. More often than not, when a new family visits NDES, they comment on how they felt a strong sense of community and love as soon as they walked in the door. One of the biggest compliments we can receive is that a student feels like NDES is their home away from home. That sense of community, combined with cutting edge technology and academic excellence, truly sets Notre Dame Elementary School apart. Third graders are learning basic CAD skills using Tinkercad. Students are creating and printing unique figurines to animate a future project.
